Candidate Statements:

• Vaishnavi Kulkarni As a person who had mixed feelings for mathematics, I understand how difficult it is to start enjoying math. For me, it greatly depended on the guidance I received while in need. Being a part of AWM, I hope to blossom the love for mathematics in others. Together we shall build a strong and enduring community of Women in Mathematics who will undoubtedly inspire future generations!
• Faith Xiong As an underrepresented community, it can be difficult to find the resources or opportunities needed to pursue our dreams. However, through AWM, we continue to stand strong and support the goals of our members. I hope to guide us through this process by being the Vice President or Treasurer. No matter what position I have, I will do my best to ensure that we receive as many opportunities as possible. With this and various resources, we will not only improve ourselves as individuals, but also as a community. Let’s continue to support and encourage one another!
• **Alyssa Phan **I am dedicated to fostering an inclusive and engaging community within AWM, where we can all support each other in our academic, professional, and personal goals and share our passions for mathematics. As an officer for AWM, I plan to provide resources and workshops for our members to get involved and pursue research, graduate school, and/or careers. I also want to host fun social events and speaker sessions with graduates, faculty, and national AWM members to share our experiences and research, as well as to explore different different topics within mathematics. I hope to foster strong relationships within our AWM community and the wider STEM community to provide a strong support system to help us navigate our time at Davis and beyond.

In this meeting, we will discuss standards for how we communicate issues and goals at our events and meetings.

Monday, April 30, 12-12:50pm in MSB 3106, Workshop: Social Change Now

It is oftentimes difficult to identify solutions to social problems in STEM. Even if you have ideas about what needs to change, you may not know how to take the first step. In this workshop, we will work together to (a) identify realistic goals for social change in STEM and (b) identify how to utilize your network and your power to make steps toward your goals. (Please note the room change from our previous location!)

Monday, April 16, 12-12:50pm in MSB 3240, Mission Statement Workshop

Our first meeting of spring quarter will be a Mission Statement Workshop in which we rework the mission statement of our student chapter to reflect the vision and goals of our current members. (See current mission statement here.) The intention for this workshop is to clearly and precisely define our direction and purpose as an organization, and for every member to understand why their contributions are important and valuable to the group. It's also a great way to decide what events and activities we should prioritize to best promote our overall goals. For those of you who are considering becoming more active in AWM, this is an awesome opportunity both to see what we are all about and to have a voice in deciding how we proceed as a club.

We will meet Thursdays from 1:10 - 2:00 pm.
